This program has been planned for a mixed group of health professionals with the emphasis on problems encountered by primary care practitioners. The goal is to provide the attendee with current information concerning the diagnosis and management of medical problems encountered in their daily practices. Upon completion of the program, the participants will be able to:
- Discuss treatment and diagnosis of common skin problems. Review clinical dermatologic cases and eliminate the wrong diagnoses while deducing the correct approach for treatment.
- Discuss HIV testing guidelines for adolescents, adults and pregnant women in the U.S. List indications for HIV testing in clinical practice.
- Describe the diagnosis & treatment for clostridium difficile colitis.
- Review rules for prevention and treatment of influenza.
- Identify the classic and the less classic symptoms of patients with asthma and categorize asthmatic patients by severity.
- Develop a treatment plan for asthma based on severity & control.
- Delineate physiologic changes that occur when patients become obese. Recognize a myriad of respiratory problems that occur when patients become obese.
- Discuss physiologic conditions affecting the health of travelers to high altitude.
- Identify the risks of hyperglycemia in the hospitalized patient and blood ranges associated with improved patient outcomes, while considering the risks of tight gylcemic control.
- Identify the goals of prevention and concrete ways to implement them into patient care by accessing and utilizing evidence-based resources for clinical preventative services.
- Review the importance of prevention and how to encourage patient participation.
- Discuss management tips for the challenges of malpractice.
- Review ways to deal with disruptive behavior in colleagues.
- Describe the use of antibiotics for specific diseases.
- Review diagnosis and treatment for MRSA.
